Note #4 to Ken: PrivateGPT Gives You Full Control Over Your Data Security & Privacy
Dear Ken,
There is only one way to guarantee that your company has full control of your data when it comes to AI: PrivateGPT.
I know your company's getting pretty big now, but you're still doing most of your IT in the cloud. What I'm gonna explain works for on-site data centers too, but I think most businesses are using the cloud for their IT these days.
When you use something like OpenAI ChatGPT Enterprise, every time you and your people interact with their AI models, it all happens on OpenAI’s cloud IT (or data center) setup.
That means every prompt you type in, every piece of info, any cool new stuff your company comes up with in the future – it's all being processed on OpenAI’s servers, in their IT world.
Here's why that's risky:
What they could technically do with your data is basically anything they feel like.
The only thing stopping them from using your data however they want are those legal contracts your company signs with them. A lot of companies I've worked with reject the legal language from companies like OpenAI because the data and IP language seems way too risky.
You have zero say in how they protect your data once you send it over.
You have no clue if OpenAI will even be around in a few years (remember Alta Vista? Everyone thought they'd be the king of internet search when the internet was just starting). If they start going downhill, your data will probably be one of the most valuable things they can leverage.
So, how is PrivateGPT a much better deal?
The whole idea behind PrivateGPT is that all your company's data stays right inside your own cloud IT setup. Instead of sending your data out, you bring in a "managed copy of OpenAI ChatGPT or any other big brain AI" into your own IT world.
Because that managed copy of the AI is behind your company's firewall, OpenAI or whoever else can't see any of the data, the questions you ask it, or any new ideas that come out of that copy of ChatGPT.
This means:
No other company can get their hands on any of your data.
You don't have to deal with extra legal contracts because if you've already got your cloud set up; this AI just gets plugged in and follows the same rules you already have with your cloud provider.
You're totally in charge of keeping your data safe and private because it's all inside your own cloud.
You can bring in as many different versions of these big brain AIs (like OpenAI ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini) as you want and remove any of them if a company goes belly up.
This should sound pretty compelling for your business already. Your lawyers are going to love me for this.
But let's chat next time about how PrivateGPT can and will turn your employees into AI power users. Catch you next week!
Later,
Dr. Joe, Your AI Doctor
These notes are for 'Ken' and 'Sookie,' the American names my young Korean immigrant parents adopted while navigating profound change as they moved to the US in the 1970’s. In the notes within this blog, I imagine them as young adults again, but now encountering change and uncertainty from today's AI shifts – Sookie with potential job uncertainty, Ken with business disruption.
Drawing inspiration from their historical resilience as young immigrants facing the unknown, I'm compelled to write with empathy and offer truly helpful thoughts for anyone navigating AI's rapid evolution. Remember, this isn't financial or direct strategic advice, but a perspective to encourage your own thoughtful consideration. I do not identify myself as their son in these notes, but in reality, I write with a son’s heart.
My notes to Sookie will always be free, as I understand employees often navigate workplace changes with fewer resources and support systems. My notes to Ken will be offered at an accessible price point designed to be a worthwhile investment for businesses of any size looking to adapt to AI changes.
